Autumn deepens

2013.11.16

Until recently, I was saying “hot! hot!” but leaves change color from green to yellow, bright orange, or red.

I have begun to use Yutanpo and changed my wardrobe.
I want to eat something hot food to warm body.
My friend sent me big taros on the other day.
satoimo (taro)

You’ll see very white and fine fiber inside.
Really sticky, not soggy.

After softened taros with a microwave oven, put sauteed chicken ground meat and the burdock.
Bake above taro au gratin topped with bechamel sauce (white miso taste) and cheese.

Also served persimmon “shiraae” and simmered Japanese mustard spinach and the dried shiitake.
The warm Fall hues on the table…

Tokyo Antique Market

2013.11.11

Autumn is the event season. I went to “Tokyo Nominoichi” (Tokyo antique market) at Chofu city on last Sunday afternoon.
You could see many antique shops which were selling antique dishes, furniture, fabrics, etc. Also you could eat world cuisine there.
Various workshops were held, too. It was windy day but the weather has improved against a weather forecast and there were packed with young families.

Mashiko Toukiichi (Pottery Fair in Mashiko)

2013.11.02

Mashiko Pottery Fair is being held in Mashiko-machi, Tochigi prefecture from Nov.1(Fri.) – Nov.5(Tue.), 2013.
This fair have been held twice a year since 1966, once in the spring during Japan’s Golden Week Holiday, and once in the fall around November 3rd. There are about 50 shops and as many as 500 tents set up selling pottery.
You can find not only Mashiko pottery but also other potteries, antiques or local freshly agricultural products in there.
It is really good chance to enjoy talking with young artists and local potters in the shops and tents.
I went there on the first day of the fair on the express bus called “Yakimono Liner”. It was warm fine day and ideal for an outing!
If you are interested in Japanese pottery, go to Mashiko Pottery Fair andenjoy the autumn!!
