-Please tell me what made you start to work as an artist?

Some years ago, I’ve been pursuing a career in design as an office worker but stayed away from “handwork”. I’ve obsessing a lot of things and frustrated because I used to like create something by myself. So I traveled alone to Kyoto and Osaka in order to break the deadlock of my mind. I visited the National Museum of Ethnology in Osaka and I felt a sudden surge of excitement when I looked easter eggs at there. I found it very refreshing to see myself presented in the painting of different of colors and patters! I was so impressed and realized that I like those colors things and handwork.
After the trip, I thought that I wanted to make something using my own hands and I begun to learn embroidery. I also participated in a tassel workshop of Kanada Keiko. I made an accessary using wood beads and my friend praised it. I think that experience caused me to start artist work.-Could you tell me why did you transform into a business?
I and my two friends participated and make a presentation in craft exhibition at Nishi-shinjuku OZONE in the spring of 2012. It was one of the opportunity caused me to think to make more pieces as an artist.

ーWhat impression did you get at the first exhibition?
I was very nervous but it was really good opportunity to talk with many people.

ーI think that your works are characterized by superb color combination or color describing. However, could you tell me which do you decide first, color or design?
I somewhat decide design first..
Specifically, I will pick up some colors from embroidery threads on the table and decide which colors will be good balance while making and other parts as well.

If there’s something you are taking care of the color combinations, could you tell me about it?
I will try not to monotonous when I use more than one colors.
Even if it’s brightly-colored taste, I’ll put some grayish color. That’s the feature of my works, I think.

-You said “grayish color” now, and I am extremely attracted to color-matching on your works.
When did you become interested in those grayish color?
I remember that I used grayish color for the art university entrance exam.
I care colorfulness rather than brightness. I try to reverberate color.
In addition, I used to tended to like austerely elegant color since I was a child.
I liked coloring when I was a child and I was preferential to grayish color like azure-blue or mouse color. I guess that my favorite colors already defined at a early age.

-Could you tell me circumstances of your upbringing?
My parent’s house running a rain gauge business in a downtown area of Tokyo and I grow up surrounded by rain gauge. Rain gauge is green with a grayish cast inside. Here is grayish again! There was the time when I helped with the assembling of the rain gauge at one time. I liked that assembling work very much.

ーThat’s very interesting story.
Maybe if it’s remain as a good memory, you’ll feel comfortable surrounded by grayish color?
Those experience in your childhood affects that you love making things.
And the original sources of your color sense came from coloring in your childhood…
It’s like you still have excitement feeling when you working with colors now.

ーWhat kind of thing do you want to try in future?
I’d like to try to make original parts for accessories. I am using 14KGF(14K gold filled) parts but  they have a small repertoire in the marketplace. I’m also interested in toreutics and trying to make an original part from 14KGF wire.

After the interview…
She is not just “accessary artist”. I think that she is an artist expressing a color by various material and methods.
She said that she likes many things relating to “handwork”. Thinking about parts or designing textile using handmade silk-screen priting machine and so on. She is good at both designing and making things directly.
Her works are characterized by grayish color combination and those color sense are also strongly Japanese elements included. I think she got a gift of color sense and high sensitivity came from her childhood circumstance and living four clealy different seasons in Japan.
She is a very cheerful person but also I feel her energy and enthusiasm when I talk with her. I can’t wait to see her new works!!
