イメージの力 The Power of Images

国立新美術館で開催中の「イメージの力 ー国立民俗学博物館コレクションにさぐる」を見に行った。
久々に入口から、ワクワクする展覧会だった。
今年で創設４０周年を迎える大阪の国立民族学博物館が、国立新美術館と共同企画したのが本展だ。
世界の本質や構造にかたちや色を与え視覚化することは、人間に与えられた豊かな資質のひとつ。本展覧会では、イメージの創造とその享受のあり方に人類共通の普遍性はあるのかという問いをテーマに掲げ、古今東西の造形物を約６００点、第１章から４章に渡って紹介している。
造形物に対して我々が持つ固定概念を問い直す試みでもある、という。
入口を入るとすぐ、世界中の仮面が壁一面に展示されている。おおっ！という驚きと共に気持ちが高揚してくる。
生身の人間ではない、世界中の仮面に見られるという不思議な感覚。
目には見えない存在を恐れ、神や精霊を「神像」として視覚化してきた古代の人々。
世界の様々な地で、多くの「イメージ」が形として創造されてきたということがわかる。
中には「いいんですか？！ふざけてるんじゃないんですか？！」というようなおもしろ表情の精霊像がいたり、元祖ゆるキャラでは？！と思われるような人形も。
現代の人々のイメージ力も古代の人に負けてはいない。ガーナの棺桶には驚いた。
ビール瓶や飛行機、車をそのままかたどった棺桶。中に入ったらどんな気持ちがするのだろう？
イメージは見る人の考えや、置かれた場所によって、本来とは違う意味や新しい価値を持つこともある、ということらしい。
他にもイースターエッグの色彩感、びっしり並んだビーズなど、特別な素材や、鮮やかな色彩や光から伝わる「特別な力」の展示にも興味をひかれた。
最後の「民族資料を現代美術風にインスタレーションしてみた」は、非常に面白い展示の仕方だと思った。
元々「はしご」や「あみ」として使われるために、つくり出されたもの達。それらを「現代アート」だと感じられるのも、またイメージ力なのだろうか。
人間の想像力のたくましさ、そしておおらかで、豊かな発想力に感嘆し、想像力を大いに刺激された。

毎週火曜日休館 ただし、4月29日（火）および5月6日（火）は開館、5月7日（水）は休館
開館時間 10：00～18：00 金曜日は20：00まで
4月19日（土）は「六本木アートナイト2014」開催にともない22：00まで開館
入場は閉館の30分前まで。
I went to the National Art Center, Tokyo where “The Power of Images:The National Museum of Ethnology Collection” exhibition is being held. It was so exciting exhibition!
As Osaka’s National Museum of Ethnology celebrates its 40th anniversary in this year, The National Art Center presents this collaborative exhibition that focuses on the Osaka museum’s expansive art collection.
According to the booklet, “An image is the form or shape of something that is created or conceived by a human being. This exhibition focuses on the interaction between people and images. Through the ages, people have created images such as tools used in everyday life, decorations worn on the body, and objects of prayer. And these images make us feel many different ways. Images have the “power” to make the prople who look at them feel something.”
You’ll find many masks collected from all over the world and many figures of gods and sprits were made in vatious regions.
There are also radiant and brilliant things which convey a special sense of power to people who look at these images.
You’ll see so many other objects and I wonder that what sort of meaning and power of the images will you have?
